On 20–21 September, representatives from over 20 new Muslim support organisations across the UK came together for the third annual Convert Care Learning & Development Weekend — a unique gathering dedicated to strengthening how we collectively support converts to Islam.
This special event brought together practitioners, leaders, and volunteers who are at the heart of serving new Muslims in their local communities. Over two days, delegates shared experiences, learned from experts, and explored practical ways to grow and sustain their programmes.
Key Themes and Expert Insights
The weekend programme focused on some of the most pressing needs for organisations working in convert care. Sessions included:
Funding Sustainability with Jehangir Malik OBE, providing actionable strategies to secure long-term impact.
Engaging with the Media with Salim Hasan Patel, offering tools to confidently shape public narratives.
Governance for Success with Lucy Bushill-Matthews, emphasising strong structures that build trust and resilience.
Family Support with Batool Al Toma, highlighting the human dimension of convert care.
Best Practice Sharing with The City Retreat (Leicester), New Muslim Circle Peterborough, and Finding Faith Edinburgh, showcasing models that inspire and equip others.

Real Impact and Lasting Value
Delegates consistently highlighted the value of practical advice and peer learning. Many left the weekend with fresh ideas, renewed confidence, and a strengthened sense of unity.
The richness of the discussions — combined with the diversity of organisational models represented — created a powerful environment for growth. Already, we are seeing new opportunities for collaboration emerge, showing that the impact of the weekend will extend well beyond the event itself.
