Sariya Cheruvallil-Contractor is a Professor at the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations, Coventry University where she also leads the Faith and Peaceful Relations research group. She is a feminist sociologist of religion who has recently explored the lived experiences of Muslim children in care; histories of Muslim women in Britain’s first mosques; and representations of Islam on higher education campuses in the UK.
Sariya is passionate about dismantling stereotypes and misconceptions of Islam, both from the outside as well as among Muslims and hopes that her work can lead to a more pluralist world within which we can respect and celebrate our diverse beliefs.
She and her husband are proud adoptive parents of two adorable children. She is a convert to Islam of Indian-catholic heritage and has been contentedly Muslim for over 20 years. She loves road trips, baking and writing.
